2020 HHPC Advent Devotional

We are delighted to give the gift of this Advent Devotional to the families of Hilton Head Presbyterian Church! It is our hope and prayer that this devotional will be used in homes, around tables, and between family and friends so that the body of Christ might see the beauty of Christ and join together in celebrating Him.

In the Season of Advent, we remember the many, many years the people of God found themselves restless in anticipation, waiting and longing for the promised Messiah. The word “Advent” can be translated into “coming” or “arrival” and marks the liturgical calendar of the global Church. It is central to the calendar and it is central to the story of redemption as all of human history indeed hinges upon the birth of Jesus Christ.

Our theme for this year’s Advent series is The Weary World Rejoices, harkening back to one of the most beloved Christmas carols, O Holy Night. If you tune your ear to those around you, you’ll hear a weariness in the conversations and voices of friends, neighbors, co-workers—perhaps even yourself—as 2020 comes to a close.

This season, we invite you to consider deeply the hope, joy, and peace that are ours in the Advent of Jesus Christ. He is the Promised One and the only true hope for every longing heart.

Each week, you’ll receive several short videos from members of our congregation, sharing how they are experiencing the transforming peace, love, joy, and hope of Christ this Advent season. We’ll deliver these right to your inbox, along with suggested resources, practices, prayers and readings to help you actively wait in hope this Advent season.

May your weary heart be found rejoicing greatly in Emmanuel, God with us.

You can sign up to receive each entry via email.

On behalf of our pastoral staff and leadership team, we extend a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to each of you and your families! We hope that you’ll join us on Christmas Eve as we celebrate Emmanuel, God with us!
